Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As you will be aware, the situation with COVID-19 is constantly changing and it could affect our ability to deliver services in the coming weeks and months.

Libraries

East Riding Libraries will continue to offer their 'Order and Collect' service - customers can either phone their library or order books online at library.eastriding.gov.uk, and then collect from their specified East Riding Library once available.

Books can be returned to any East Riding Library during opening hours and will be quarantined for three days before being cleaned and returned to shelves.

There is also an extensive online library available 24/7, of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and local, national and international newspapers which can all be downloaded free with your library card. The Mobile Library Service will continue to provide an order and collect service and customers of the "at home" service will still have their books delivered. For any questions about the mobile library service, please call the mobile library team on 01482 392749.

Museums

East Riding Museums (Beverley Art Gallery, Beverley Guildhall, Goole Museum, and Skidby Mill) remain closed.

The Treasure House and café are also closed, but Beverley Library remains open for 'Order and Collect'.

Archives

East Riding Archives is currently closed until further notice.

Customer Services

Customer Service Centres are closed for public drop-ins to avoid unnecessary contact where possible. For residents needing essential customer service support, many answers can be found on the website www.eastriding.gov.uk or please contact the call centre on 01482 393939; if necessary, a face to face appointment can be arranged in an emergency situation. Please be aware that the volume of calls may be higher than usual.

Caddy Liners

Caddy Liners can be collected at the entrance of our Multi Service Centres and Libraries during open hours.

Documents and Keys

Whilst Bridlington and Goole Customer Service Centres are closed, documents or keys can be posted through their letterbox. Customers wishing to drop documents or keys off at Beverley will need to take these to the Library at the Treasure House. Please put documents or keys in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your name, address, and name of the relevant service / officer. Please note we will not be proof checking any documents.

Payments

There are a variety of ways to make a payment. This includes direct debit or online, via our automated payment line, (please call 0300 330 1515), by telephone with an advisor on (01482) 393939. You can also make payments at your local Post office or at any Pay Point outlet. Please remember to take your account number or a bill that shows your barcode. Payments cannot be made at any of our centres until further notice.

Countryside Access

Please note: All events and activities organised by the Countryside team are cancelled until further notice.

All Local Nature Reserves will remain open, for people to take their daily exercise, but people must maintain social distancing and avoid mixing households outside of your support bubble.

Cycling is also great for fun and fitness, but please do not cycle on public footpaths. Please utilise quieter roads, cycle ways and cycle routes, and public bridleways. Cycling on public footpaths causes safety issues for the increased number of people out walking, spoils their enjoyment and is not permitted by the owners of the land.

Our four disused railway lines in the East Riding offer quieter places to cycle away from cars, and all offer informal or larger car parks.

The East Riding has some great walks. Choose a short walk or something more challenging, but remember to keep two metres away from other people. Plan a walk from home using our Public Rights of Way map to see where there are countryside paths near you. Visit http://walkingtheriding.co.uk/

At all times, follow the Countryside Code which has information for dog walkers and etiquette about gates. Please respect other users and the owners of the land and take your litter home.

Coastal Services

All winter and annual lets for chalets will remain closed until further notice. For enquiries, please email foreshores@eastriding.gov.uk

Outside you should remember 'Hands. Face. Space':

  • hands - wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds
  • face - wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet
  • space - stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings or increasing ventilation indoors)

The foreshore and beaches are open and we would like to take this opportunity to remind our users to maintain social distancing and ensure that dogs are kept under control at all times. The dog exclusion zones will be enforced from 4 July so please familiarise yourself with these before bringing your dog to the beach. We also ask dog owners to clean up after their pets, and to dispose of the waste in the bins provided. All this will continue to be monitored by our team, and government instructions will be reinforced where necessary.

Customers with bookings will be contacted in strict chronological order when the receptionist will either take payment for the chalet or offer a refund if either the council or the customer have to cancel the booking. Outstanding refunds will be given as soon as possible. Please be aware that new terms and conditions have been introduced and it is important that customers read these before using the chalets.

The Coastal Services team will monitor compliance with the new terms and conditions of hire for the chalets and public behaviour around the chalets before taking any bookings for winter lets or for 2021.

The paddling pool in Hornsea is closed. Bridlington paddling pool is currently open but users are requested to maintain social distancing in and around the pool.
