About The Read-In
We know through experience that over the six week summer holidays children can experience a dip in their reading levels. As schools have now closed to most children due to the Coronavirus there is now a sixteen week break before the school summer holidays even start! To encourage your children to practice their reading skills and help them discover the joy of reading for pleasure we have devised the Big Spring Read-In.
Encourage your child to read every week and submit an online review to receive certificates after five, ten and fifteen weekly reviews.
How To Take Part
- The Big Spring Read-In is most suitable for children aged between 4-11; however, if you want to use this as an opportunity to share a story with your toddler, or if your teenager loves to read, then we certainly are not going to discourage them from getting involved!
- To take part your child must be a library member and you must have access to their library card number. If they are not a member then you can join them up online for FREE here
- Each week your child will fill in an online review form to tell us what they think about what they have been reading. We will also ask for an email address and details of which library you usually visit so they may need some help with this! The books can be anything your child would like to read - books you already have or borrowed from school or the library before closure, or you could borrow eBooks or eAudiobooks from us for FREE!
- After five, ten and fifteen review submissions we will email you a certificate to print at home. The Big Spring Read-In is about sustained reading practice so we would ask you not to fill in more than one review a week. If your child is a super reader then feel free to share more reviews on your social media and don't forget to tag us on Facebook @ERidingLMA or Twitter @ERidingLMA. This will help others discover the Read-In and find new authors and books to try.
