Groups and clubs

We have lots of social groups and fun activities for all ages at our libraries. What are you interested in?

Please note: Not all groups are available at every library, and some groups may require booking a place in advance.

Skills and learning

Code Club: Children aged 9-11 can join this afterschool club to learn coding and create fun projects of their own imagination. It uses Scratch, HTML, CSS and Python software. You can also borrow a free Micro:bit to code at home.

Tablet Time: Have a tablet and not quite sure how to make the most of it? Join a Tablet Time group to share problems, share knowledge and most of all, have fun!

Computer lessons: Do you need help with one thing or do you want a regular class on computer skills? We host drop-in help sessions and structured lessons from external partners.

Ancestry research groups: Get help looking into your family's past with our range of ancestry and family history groups. Get free access to family history websites on library computers or at East Riding Archives. See Research 24/7 for a full list or use the family history guide on East Riding Archives.

Fun and games

Games Group: Relive the fun of tabletop games such as chess, draughts, ludo, snakes and ladders, pick-up sticks, Yahtzee, cards, domino's and halma. Come along and take a seat.

Crafts and Writing

Knit and Natter: Whether it's your first time holding a pair of needles or you have a wardrobe full of hand-made jumpers, join our popular knit and natter groups to meet lively, new friends of all ages.

Writers Group: Share your love of writing with like-minded people and learn the steps to getting your work published. All words welcome, including short stories, poetry, book reviews, magazine articles and more.

Babies and Toddlers

Storytime for Pre-School Children: Storytime is a fun and enjoyable introduction to books for pre-schoolers. Build your child's vocabulary, concentration and listening skills.

Bounce and Rhyme: Learning nursery rhymes before starting school has been linked to improved reading and spelling skills by the time your child gets to junior school. Enjoy some fun sing-along songs and prepare your child for their future.

Book Clubs

Reading can reduce stress by 68% and risk of dementia by 35%. East Riding Libraries has book clubs for everyone, including adults, children 5-7 years old and 8-11 years and teenagers. We also have clubs specifically for poetry, audiobooks and U3A members.

Support Groups

Reminiscence: Come along to your local library for dementia and Alzheimer's support. Our friendly staff organise memory boxes, scrapbook making and more.

Agencies: Some local support groups hold drop in sessions at East Riding Libraries, such as Age UK and Sight Support (formerly HERIB). Just pop-in for information, ask questions or for a friendly chat.

Need a map for a planning application?

Mapping service downtime. Due to supplier system upgrades, the mapping service is temporarily unavailable. Normal service will be available at the earliest opportunity. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Print, copy and scan

Need to print your tickets or scan a form, but don't have your own printer? No problem! There are printers and scanners available for self-serve at East Riding Libraries using our public computers. Use of our computers and scanning is free, there is a fee per page printed. The Print, Click, Go service allows you to print from your own device.

Click, Print, Go!

East Riding Libraries currently offer the Click, Print, Go service at nine of our libraries. You can email documents direct to the printer from your own devices, wherever you are. You will receive a unique collection code by email and then you can come and collect your documents. Only cash payments accepted.
