Bridlington Central Library is to benefit from government funding which will see the ground floor fully refurbished and the introduction of a new, state-of-the-art makerspace.

With £250,000 funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s Libraries Improvement Fund as well as additional council funding, the £449,000 project will transform Bridlington Central Library. The funding will also be used to update Bridlington North Library which will be announced at a later date.

Bridlington Central Library will close on Saturday, 29 March at 1pm, with the project aiming to be completed by Summer 2025.

Within Bridlington Central Library the funding will allow the council to improve the libraries service as a whole and create a specialised space for small and emerging businesses to grow and flourish within Bridlington and the East Riding.

The IT suite will be transformed into an innovative makerspace offering residents, as well as new and established businesses, the opportunity to access equipment such as 3D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, the latest software in game design, crafting equipment and much more.

The library will be remodelled to maximise the space, decorated and new lighting will be installed. The shelving and furniture will be upgraded to give the library a light and modern feel without losing the current character of the library, improving the overall user experience.

The junior library will be moved to the rear of the building and will feature a bespoke sensory area. There will also be a dedicated area for groups and activities, with ‘living wall’ panels to bring nature into the space and absorb carbon dioxide.

For those wanting to use the library to study, booths will be installed on the ground and first floor as a quiet space to work. On the first floor, there will also be a dedicated Health Zone where customers can attend their health and wellbeing checks and body composition scans in privacy.

By enhancing our library's facilities, we are creating a welcoming space where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive together. We are excited to see the positive impact this transformation will have on our community for generations to come."

During the refurbishment of Bridlington Central Library the Adult Learning Centre will remain open as normal on the first floor. Bridlington North Library and Flamborough Library who both offer a browsing service will also remain open during this time.
